I-LYA Supports Petition for Environmental Study

By Kevin Irwin - HBYC Webmaster

As the HBYC Webmaster I recently received information from the I-LYA (Inter-Lake Yachting Association) that I thought was important to share with HBYC members. I am not a journalist, but in an effort to be balanced I found a number of websites that I hope inform you of the issue.

I-LYA is monitoring the ICEBREAKER WINDPOWER INC. PROJECT very closely.

Icebreaker, an industrial wind facility intended to result in the construction of 1,400 to 1,500 wind turbines in Lake Erie by the year 2030, is nearing approval with the State of Ohio.  Icebreaker Wind is a unique wind energy project - the first offshore wind facility in the Great Lakes, the first freshwater wind farm in North America, and only the second offshore wind project in the entire U.S.

To learn more about this wind project click here: Icebreaker Windpower, Inc.

I-LYA has concerns about the unknown environmental impact of this project. They are supporting a petition asking Governor DeWine to request a complete Environmental Impact Statement before allowing the construction of industrial wind turbines in Lake Erie:     https://www.change.org/p/save-lake-erie-from-project-icebreaker-wind-turbine-development-before-it-is-too-late?signed=true

There are a number of groups who are opposing this project and have posted information to inform the public on this issue.
