The 2016 “Race in the Bay for Stein Hospice” was held under great sailing conditions and was almost as exciting to watch as it was to participate.in. Brisk winds kept all racers on their toes throughout the afternoon as they navigated the race course while avoiding the traffic created by wind surfers who came out to enjoy the ideal conditions on the same race course. Eight boats started and all finished the course with respectable times due to good wind throughout the day
This annual race was sponsored by Harbor Bay Yacht Club and Sandusky Harbor Marina as a fund raiser for Stein Hospice. Members and guests in attendance dug deep into their pockets and broke all previous donation records. Money was raised through race entry fees, sale of RITB shirts and caps, and donations for the burgers and dinner social held in the clubhouse after the race.. Accepting the donation was Tamara Zuilhof Stein Hospice Chief Operating Officer for Stein Hospice. Attendees enjoyed and danced to the live music of popular island singer/musician “West Side Steve”. At one point during the night West Side Steve was joined by HBYC singer and musician Damon Ferguson who added his trademark Irish music touch to the evening fun.
